WHAT IS A PDO THREAD LIFT?

Introduction: Thread lifts are now steadily becoming an easier and hassle-free alternative to facelift procedures. It is suitable for individuals who are not willing to plump on severe treatment options. While the results of a thread lift are ephemeral and not as phenomenal as a facelift, the transformation in the removal of fine lines and wrinkles can be witnessed gradually, as and how the procedure stimulates natural collagen production. What is a PDO Thread Lift? Now, PDO stands for polydioxanone, that is an absorbable polymer which is flexible and enduring for minimally invasive thread lifts. The use of these sutures in the thread lift procedure has, therefore, served to be the derivation of the name of this treatment. There are three essential textures of PDO stitchings:

(1) Mono: These threads are singular, smooth sutures that are anchored to the face. They provide a minute lift.

(2) Cog: These threads have a barbed texture that furnish better lift and increased collagen production.

(3) Screw Threads: This texture has one or two intertwined threads. They bequeath volume to the treated area. What are the Benefits of This Treatment? As the name suggests, the PDO Thread Lift is a procedure that lifts and tightens sagging skin tissues. The threads are interjected into the deep layers of skin. Once introduced, the threads yield 3 impacts on the skin:

  • Instant Skin Lifting through mechanical impressions
  • Cellular Renewal through collagen stimulation, and neovascularisation to improve skin texture, fine lines and elasticity
  • Skin Tightening by contracting fat tissue

The Procedure: (I) Before treatment, the skin of the patient is marked for insertion. The direction of the ‘To Be Inserted Threads’ is sketched on the face.

(II) Once marked, the insertion points are thoroughly anaesthetized.

(III) Now, multiple threads can be inserted through the same point in the skin. PDO threads are attached to a long cannula (sharp or blunt tip needle), and this tube is pushed through the tissue beneath the skin, till the thread reaches its predecided spot. The thread is released and the cannula is, thereupon, bowed out.

(IV) This cycle is repeated until the coveted lift is attained. Now, there are as many as, one to fifteen threads inserted, depending upon the region of treatment and concern being addressed.

(V) The threads, therefore, anchor the skin and lift it upwards. The excess threads are cut off.

(VI) The procedure can take 15-30 minutes, depending upon the areas that have to be treated. Note: There is some discomfort during the procedure, but as with changing times, new and improved techniques are being introduced, patients can now experience less pain.

Post-Procedure: (I) Most patients who undergo the PDO Thread Lift, are able to resume routinely activity within a week, postoperatively.

(II) Now, six months after the procedure, the PDO threads start to disappear through simple hydrolysis.

Why? It is because the PDO threads are absorbable.

(III) Due to the impact of cellular rejuvenation, the lifted facial contours endure for about 3-6 months more.

(IV) The skin cells of the patients are stimulated to fabricate new collagen, and new blood vessels to improve skin microcirculation. The PDO threads, at the same time, cause contraction of fat tissues, which ultimately result in skin tightening and facial slimming. The objective of a PDO Thread Lift is, therefore, to reposition facial and neck tissues. This eventually, serves in the rejuvenation of youthful symmetry and appearance of the face.
